Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on court had led some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
He recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
